A Husbad's Love
Once at home, making her comfortable was his primary concern. She had to gain her full strength back before she could take on everything on her own. As planned, they had enlisted the aid of house keeper to assist with the baby. She had been restricted to her bed and he rose only to feed the baby. ToTheir doctor had recommended that she get a lot of rest. He being quite proficient in the kitchen did all the cooking while house keeper managed the cleaning and ran errands. He only left her side if some of her girlfriends stopped by for a visit. If she attempted to do more than her part, she was scolded by her overly concerned husband.
On one such day while the baby slept in the nursery Suleika awoke. She was feeling more rested than ever. The French doors to the bedroom terrace were opened, The red, pink and white blooms of the geraniums she had planted a few weeks back were feeling at home in their new home and they were beginning to cascade over the railing. A humming bird flew back and forth amidst her potted garden seeking nectar. She remained in her bed observing the tiny creature's diligent quest, until he finally flew away, likely in search of better pastures.
She slowly sat up on the bed to deliberate for a moment how to manage making it to the living room unassisted. She winced immediately from the pain due to the cesarean stitches received. She could not avoid this indefinitely. Sooner or latter she had to manage on her own. Putting on a brave face she ventured toward the door. This was the first time since back from the hospital that she would make it to the living room unattended. She held on the long wall of the hallway. From behind the desk in the study, he noticed the long shadow she casted over the wall as she made her way around the hallway toward the living room. He quietly exited the study to meet her halfway.
