Shia LaBeouf, star of this summer's "Transformers," has officially signed to co-star with Harrison Ford in the fourth "Indiana Jones" movie, producer George Lucas and director Steven Spielburg announced.

The signing of LaBeouf comes after months of internet rumors that he would be taking part in the next Indy movie. The film is set to premiere on May 22, 2008.

"We are excited about bringing Shia into our Indy family," Spielberg said in a statement on the "Indiana Jones" Web site. "His talent has impressed not only his audiences throughout his young career but the directors, producers and fellow actors who have worked with him in his television career and now his film career."

Paramount Pictures declined to say Friday what role LaBeouf would play in the film.

The 20 year old LaBeouf said in March that the internet rumors going around about him being involved with the film were just that- rumors.

"The way that thing started, it's just wild how it snowballed," LaBeouf said in March. "I don't have a deal on the table, it's just a rumor. Would I do it? In a second. It'd be working for a legend and working with legends. Who wouldn't? But is it something I'm doing right now? No. I'm an out-of-work actor."

The actor has had a big week, along with his thriller "Disturbia" opening this weekend, he will also host "Saturday Night Live." LaBeouf is best known for his roles as a youngster in the movie "Holes" and the Disney Channel comedy series "Even Stevens."

Lucas and Spielburg had made LaBeouf keep quiet on his addition to the cast despite the speculation. Spielburg said in a statement:

"Shia has extraordinary range. I think of him as 'the young man for all seasons."

Fans online are speculating that LaBeouf may play the son of Indiana Jones in the film, but those involved with the project, including LaBeouf, aren't talking. Everything to this point involving the script is secretive.
