The people who purchase timeshare vacations are as varied as the resorts that sell them, but vacationing "Timeshare" style is great for families.

I was introduced to the concept of timeshares by my uncle when I was only 17. I vacationed with his family a few times as an unpaid babysitter for my younger cousin and I was quickly hooked on the idea of timeshare. My husband and I purchased our timeshare in March 1996 through Fairfield Resorts (now Wyndham Vacation Resorts) in Williamsburg, Va. Over the last ten years we have been to the mountains of Virginia, Orlando, Dominican Republic, the mountains of North Carolina, Myrtle Beach, Daytona Beach, and, of course, back to Williamsburg.

The most obvious benefit of staying at a timeshare resort is more space. When we first purchased, we only had a two-year-old son and space was not an issue. My oldest son is now 13, and we have added two my children to complete our family. My kids LOVE staying at timeshares and have been dubbed, "Timeshare Babies". They are used to the space afford by staying in a two-bedroom condo, or townhouse. They love having their own space while on vacation. The younger children share a room, with almost always two full beds, and their own television. My oldest child sleeps on sofa bed, which he loves because he does not have to share his television, and he can stay up late without disturbing anyone. My husband and I get the master bedroom, complete with a separate bathroom, and almost always, a Jacuzzi tub.

  • Timeshare benefits

I don't recommend this type of ownership for very busy people who cannot book in advance and need more flexibility and ability to book whenever to wherever they want to go. The purchase I made not only did not satisfy my expectations, but rather I feel like I have been scammed, robbed from my money and I didn't even get to book last minute getaways to a nearby location, close to my home because the resorts were booked. I lost my money and my memberhsip expired. Please read your contracts very carefully!!!
