Umbrellas for Your Child: Guide to Choosing, and Reason of Purchase

Ok, it may seem like an odd topic, but having your child from a young age use an umbrella is a good habit. Why? Simple, many migraines and headaches that you experience as you grow older (even the back pains, shoulder pains, etc) comes from a bad habit of standing in the rain. While being in the rain, it affects your body's internal physical function, and can leave some traces in the internal areas. To the bottom of the point, being in the rain can easily help you catch a cold or get those horrible headaches in the near future. Buying a good umbrella for your child is a good idea to help them prevent these future pains, and it's a good habit to grow on. However, some children do use umbrellas for battle weapons, and it would be smart if you talked to them before-hand to prevent any injuries from the play fighting they might have with their friends.
When purchasing an umbrella, make sure that it's safe. For example, don't have any metal bits and pieces sticking out which can poke them or anyone else in the eye. Look for safer materials like plastic ends. Also, look at the way the umbrella opens. Some times the way you open can easily hurt your fingers. While you're checking out the way the umbrella opens, make sure it is easily accessible, and easy to use. Umbrellas which are designated to open when a button is pushed may be the easiest way for your child to open an umbrella. Also, teach them to aim the umbrella away from themselves and others when opening it. Don't have a metal, pointy umbrella - a wooden flat top may be the most ideal design as you can't inflict much harm unto others or yourself.
Next, consider the size. A large umbrella may become a hazard and an annoyance for them to carry - especially if it's also heavy. The last thing your child would want is to carry a heavy, large umbrella on top of their backpacks, and books. Small, handy umbrellas which can easily fit into their backpack are the most ideal design in my opinion. Small umbrellas can also open to full size.
