After running around different sites related to literary publishing to bring my hobby to a more intrusive level in my life for the sheer joy of it, I came across the site LULU.COM. If you are a writer who has been considering putting those efforts in book form and you don't want to go through the literary agent, publishing house world to do it this is the site for you.

For many writers, myself included, many forms of writings, poetry for one, though popular on the internet, do not appeal to the traditional publication market and thus book deals are not likely. Traditional publication methods of course are more likely to land you fame and fortune if you can succeed at that than self publishing. But first you have to write something that an entire committee has to agree will make the publisher a profit and though they have many to choose from, in fact too many, they will not publish everything that they thought would be successful. And there have been plenty of examples of success with self publishing to put your work into a book and at least give it a shot if you ever thought about doing it.

Lulu.com offers writers an opportunity that is unequaled from any other site I have been to. You can upload your manuscript, select your book cover and graphics and be published in a matter of minutes; or longer if you have a hard time making decisions. And it's FREE! That's right! You don't have to pay anything to get your book published and you are in control of all. Your book, once published is available for sale through their site but they don't own your rights to your work. If someone buys your book they print it and send it out and you get paid.

Takeaways
  • Lulu.com a place that makes it easy and free to self publish your book

Thank you again for all the great comments! I am happy to know that this article will be part of bringing so many authors to publication through a free system uncontrolled by corporate magnets. Artists running wild and free sounds like a very good set up to me.

I used lulu.com to publish my NaNoWriMo novel (a reward for completing the 50,000 word challenge is a free copy of your book from lulu.) I was pleased at how easy it was to do, how quickly I received my book, and the overall quality of it. I uploaded the book about an hour before the deadline to get the free copy and had no problems at all, despite being somewhat technologically challenged. Good article!
