Now that you've decided a Caribbean destination wedding will be the event of the year, it's likely that wedding date plans are underway for the grand celebration. If you've set your sights on some of the world's most
coveted destinations, it's a good idea to find out how to get around the tropical storms and peak seasons-these could have a serious impact on the whole affair.

Prices can almost triple during peak season and holidays, while the weather can be a no-fly zone in a short period of a few weeks. Whether you've got your heart set on the shores of Jamaica or a trip to the warm seas of Trinidad and Tobago, here's what you need to know!

1. Avoid June through November trips. These are the peak seasons for tropical storms, hurricanes, and monsoon-like climates. August, September, and October are usually the worst months, but any islands in the far south might be a safer bet if you can't reschedule your trip.

2. Peak travel season runs from December through April, and both room rates and airline tickets can cost double the standard prices. If budget is an issue for you, pick hurricane season but choose the safest islands-your best bets include Aruba and Curacao.

3. Avoid Spring Break season for the Caribbean cruise. Sailing on a cruise ship full of college students or partiers won't be your best opportunity for a romantic setting; avoid March and April when possible.

4. February is a great month for Caribbean cruises. The weather is near-perfect, and you'll be out of the way from hurricanes and turbulent weather.

5. Hotels do offer off-season discounts during hurricane season. From August to October, expect rates as much as 40% off.

6. Christmas season is the liveliest time of the year. If you can afford it, join in the festivals, carnivals, and nightlife from December 15 through January 6. Every night you'll come across a celebration and elaborate parties along the coast.

7. Carnaval is celebrated around February 27; you'll find parades and crowds that reach the millions for local festivals and events.

  • Christmas season is the liveliest time of the year
  • The Puerto Plata Festival is an annual event that takes place in late October
  • Avoid June through November trips
