Islamic Transnationalism: Symptom or Threat?

2
Literally, transnationalism means a movement or a religious ideology of political Islam that is only just holding its religious principles and undermines the culture and traditions of the nation-state. Transnationalism become part of the fundamentalist movement, who regard Islam will always be relevant wherever and whenever it exists (al-Islamu shalihun likulli jamanin wa makanin). Whatever the regime and system in a nation-state, if not the foundation of Islam, then Islam can be defeated in order to become a replacement system.

According to Taqiyuddin Nabhani, the father of the transnationalist, in his Nizam al-Islam (2001), implementing Islam as the state system is an obligation that must be Muslims. Islam is the most relevant teachings which have values of justice and benefit, therefore to apply it in life should be a necessity. Islam and the state or societal issues (ijtimaiyyah) is not a separate thing, but it should run. Islam separates the two issues that, similar to nullify the teachings of Islam as coming from God. In more remote, negate the existence of God who has revealed the teachings of which are therein values of justice and welfare, is a big mistake.

Understanding Transnationalism
Cases in Indonesia, typical of the Muslims who form a social movement or political organizations in the community, to shape the discourse and issues, and deliberately blow delegitimation actions to the state, and then replaced with the Islamic system (nizam al-Islam), has become more obvious place.

Although in reality, the movement certainly collides with the interests of unity of Indonesia, but the movement felt that the nation has an obligation to use Indonesia as the Islamic system in their understanding. The strategy is to make it happen, for example, is using democracy as a means or device. Transnational democracy for Muslims is a tool for the ride to realize our goal to Islam as the state system.
