Last summer I wrote about a local artist who has given up his booth, but is still often found shopping, at the Weber City flea market. I share a booth here too. Sometimes I invite people who use the "Wanted" page on
Craigslist to look at things in the market that may be what they want. Sometimes they reply that they don't know where the market is. So, for all those who would like to meet Jim Speers, Gena Greene, et al., here are complete directions to the Weber City flea market.

How to Find the Weber City Flea Market Coming from Scott County, Virginia

1. Take Route 23 south toward Kingsport, Tennessee.

a. If it's Friday, as a flea market shopper you won't want to miss Gate City's Friday Market. This open-air flea market attracts local food growers and always has a good selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, including local specialties and organic food items. Since it's outdoors, it closes earlier than the Weber City market does. Most vendors leave at or before 12 noon. So go there first. Take the business route through town, which will be Jackson Street. Turn right at the first traffic light on Jackson Street, which will be Kane Street. Immediately turn right again at the first side street off Kane, which will be Water Street. Follow the crowd. After shopping, get back on Kane Street and turn left/south onto Route 23. The Weber City market is indoors, and most vendors will stay there till 2 p.m. (The sign says 4 p.m., but if traffic is slow, vendors will go home and managers will close the building.)

b. If it's Saturday, there is no competing flea market in Gate City, but stores and restaurants will be open, so you might still want to take the business route. The Weber City market is open from 8 a.m. to at least 2 p.m.

c. If it's Sunday, you can miss a few lights and stay on Route 23 all the way. Not all vendors open their booths on Sunday but the building is still open from 8 a.m. to at least 2 p.m.

2. After going under the railroad track and passing the Food City store on your left, the next side street on the left will be Reading. Move into the left turn lane. The next side street after Reading will be Legion Street. Turn left on Legion Street.

Thanks for the information. I love flea markets and like to visit my local one on Sundays. The fresh fruit and vegetables are lovely, so it's hard to resist a trip, plus, I love the atmosphere of flea markets. Sophie
