I had just sat down. There I was, finally finished hanging pictures in my new apartment when I received a phone call. It was my mother.

"Your friend is on MSNBC right now."

I quickly flipped the channel to see Pamela Smart on television. The title of the one-hour program was "Dark Heart, Iron Hand." As quickly as I flipped it on, I flipped it right off.

"Mom, you know I don't watch those things about her," I said as I tried to distract myself. "I just am not interested."

"Okay, well I thought I'd let you know," mom said.

Why don't I watch those programs? Well I think to a certain extent they sensationalize everything. Just going by the name for the documentary alone, you know you are in for a good story. I mean, come on, it sounds like a Danielle Steel novel or something.

I guess the main reason I stay away is because I'm at a different level with the whole "situation" for lack of a better word. There is no sensationalism is what I see or read. It's just Pamela. It's just Katie. It's no glitz or glamour. Just letters about what is going on in our lives. The words make me realize who I am, what mistakes I have made in judging people. It's about coming out of my skin into a different world, and realizing that there are women who are suffering greatly behind bars-whether I believe they are guilty or innocent has no bearing on it.

So the answer is yes, I do care. But not about the sensationalized stories that come out.

It's not MSNBC Investigates, it's the needs for simplicity.
