Laryngitis is a common medical condition that affects your voice box (larynx). This irritation can be caused by speaking too much, especially with your voice raised. Or, it can be caused by an infection such as from a cold, the flu or bronchitis. Laryngitis can make your voice sound raspy or hoarse. In acute cases this condition can make it impossible to speak. The next time you suffer from a case, use these homemade remedies for Laryngitis.

When your throat is slightly irritated because you've been speaking too much, for example, a simple homemade remedy is to drink plenty of water and rest your voice box. The water will help moisturize your dry, raw throat. You can also suck on hard candy so your glands produce more saliva. But, your best bet is drinking water.

Avoid smoking tobacco, drinking caffeine and alcohol, all of which dry your mouth and throat out. And, stay out of places that have dust and fumes in the air as these will irritate your voice box even more.

For worse cases of Laryngitis, such as those that are caused by illnesses, drinking water can help keep your body hydrated. But hot soups can help clear the mucous from your irritated throat better. Drinking hot teas can be a homemade remedy for Laryngitis too, especially if you choose a healer such as Goldenseal or Echinacea. These two herbal teas are natural antibiotics than aid in curing bodily infections.

To help make these two herbal teas taste better, and fortify them both, you can add a spoon or two of honey and lemon juice to each cup. The honey will help act as a "pick-me-up" as it will give you a bit of energy. It will also soothe your irritated vocal cords by coating your throat. The lemon juice is an excellent source of Vitamin C. It also helps fight infections as well.

Drinking herbal teas is beneficial to your health in a number of ways. However, you can skip the teas and just stir up a hot cup of lemonade instead. Drinking cups of hot water, lemon juice and honey is an old-fashioned homemade remedy that's been used for generations.

I've been lucky to escape this one so far in life. Although, there have been a couple of occassions where I wouldn't have minded it popping up.
