The Cynical Bomb
John Mansfield sat there with the bomb near him. He was not pleased with anything in life these days. It made him sick to even hear Kurt Cobain and his band Nirvana on the radio. With their lyrics about depression and how hard life was. He did not recall anyone being upbeat in such a long time. In the last few years, he had no clue over what happened to positive thinking. Maybe it went the way of the dinosaur.
He was once a motivational speaker, but was fired when he was found sitting in a closet. When he held a gun to his head after a seminar. It was almost if a gun or a bomb was his only friend. The one thing he could trust at a time like this. Mansfield looked out the window and did not see one person in the neighborhood. He remembered as a child, kids like him used to pay without any problems. Now they were getting snatched left and right.
There was an article in the newspaper he read about something called ''The Internet''. Where people can communicate with each other. He also read about some features called ''web sites'' or ''web pages''. Mansfield also read about things that would be available such as pictures, video, an audio. He worked for a computer company years earlier. During those years, he heard about these bulletin boards hackers used. Why would someone want hacking to go public?
All that was on television now were a bunch of cable channels. He never heard of cable until ten or fifteen years ago. Years ago, he remembered there were three channels and kids had more time to play outside. Mansfield never owned a VCR, he never saw the sense in it. Advertisements and commercials always stated one could record his or her favorite programs. Yet he never saw the use of any of it. Since he always believed if one saw it, then they saw it. Yet if one did not, then they did not.
