Midland, Michigan actually is a fun place to be during the summer. Where do you want to be in the summer? At a park playing Frisbee, going downtown to the ice cream shop, or hanging out with friends at the beach? Many people think there is nothing to do; I have information that there really are things to do.

Whether you are downtown or just around town, there is something to do for everyone; and it's free; with a few things at a very low cost. For starters, the children that like to run around and jump and be in the cool water on a hot day, you can take them to one of the two spraygrounds located at the end of Ashman St, downtown; or Longview Elementary school. Or the kids can spend a few hours at one of the ten elementary parks, while two staff members supervise and play with them in the morning or afternoon.

Then there are the events directed more towards teenagers looking to have fun and stay out of trouble. They can go to the BMX Track at Stratford Woods Park and compete with their friends. Skateboarding is a very energetic way to spend an afternoon and with the various parks around teens are able to many options to do this, also at the Trilogy Skate Park; they can also use their inline skates at the park. With all the ramps and competition this is a great place for up-and-coming skateboarder and inline skaters to practice and train. Also down at the Emerson Park is located the hockey rink, where participation in inline hockey is a great source of entertainment. You can always head out on the Rail Trail through downtown Midland using your skates, skateboards, bicycling or even walking.

In the case that you are an adult and want to participate in a little friendly competition you can join a Beach Volleyball league or a Softball league. This does cost a small fee up front. Or for the gentleman players or avid females there is the Currie Municipal Golf course located on Currie Parkway. For the teens with no money or the couple looking for a cheap-yet-fun date there is the Disc Golf, all you need is disc or frisbee.
