Fall and Winter Yield Adventurous Excursions

Fall and winter excite and subdue the senses with scenic wonders, grand adventures, and promises of restful bliss as we escape for a moment from the bitter chill. We do not have to spend all of our winter wishing for more and wondering what we can do about it. Throughout the country, there are winter quests just waiting for us. Here are some of my favorites.

The Appalachian Trail contains over 2,000 miles of scenic bliss. It is the ultimate trail walking experience. It is free to walk the trail. However, some of the places where a person can spend the night may charge minimal fees. The trail extends from Georgia to Maine, crossing through fourteen states. The photo opportunities are endless. The trail is open all year long unless the northern most end has to close due to dangerous weather conditions.

Another magical winter marvel is Walt Disney World during the holidays. Walt Disney World creates a holiday masterpiece that every visitor becomes part of. Whether visiting the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, or Disney's Hollywood Studios, the lights and atmosphere are sure to enthrall the young and the young at heart. In the Magic Kingdom, Mickey's Christmas Party and Mickey's Once Upon A Christmastime Parade are a sheer delight. Epcot Center's Holidays Around the World is a spectacular educational journey. People working in the different areas are from the perspective countries, and I, personally, found Around the World to be the highlight of my Disney experience.

The Peanut Festival in Dothan, Alabama occurs from October 30 to November 8 in 2009. Entertainment for 2009 includes Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Gloriana, Chuck Wicks, Shane Owens, and Jesse James. Along with this top notch entertainment are contests galore. Contests include beef, goat, cake decorating, photography, and much more. There are exhibits for all ages. Of course, there are the rides. There are rides for the very daring and rides for the romantic. Whatever you are looking for, you are sure to find at the National Peanut Festival.
