In Blacksburg, VA, students on the campus of Virginia Tech are piecing together the events as the authorities are doing the same. About 7:15 this morning a gunman entered a dorm on one side of campus and went to the 4th floor of the West Ambler Johnston dorm and killed one student. Resident Assistants went door to door informing students in that dorm to stay in their dorms and away from the windows. They were in lockdown, waiting and wondering what was going on. Many went online trying to figure out what was happening. About two hours later, on the other side of campus a gunman entered a building where classes were taking place. The gunman opened fire, shooting students and professors. He left one classroom and went to atleast one other classroom. He had two 9 millimeter guns. It is believed that both of the shootings were done by the same shooter. That shooter then took his own life.
This is the deadliest shooting, with the 1966 shooting at the University of Texas being the last shooting of this magnitude. Where 16 people were killed before police gunned down the killer. It has the entire community of Virginia Tech shocked and in horror. The rest of the country feeling the effects of yet another school shooting.
This was the second time in less than a year that Virginian Tech campus was closed due to a shooting. In August 2006 an escaped inmate from the jail killed a hospital guard and a sherriffs deputy.
