The movie Rounders is a phenomenal movie that stars Matt Damon. The centralized theme is poker and for any card player this film is a must-see. I rate the movie as the best poker movie ever and I strongly suggest that every poker player watch it.

The Movie Rounders starts off with a monologue by Matt Damon which continues throughout the film. However the opening scene is of vital importance because not only is a thriller but it paves the way for the storyline of the movie. Matt Damon plays the role of a no limit Texas hold’em poker player named Mike.

In the opening scene he collects all of his hidden money which totals in the tens of thousands of dollars and plays a high stakes poker game with members of the Russian mafia. After having success and advancing to the final table, he meets heads up with Teddy KGB, the head of the Russian Mafia with roots in New York City.

In a hand that is unbelievable, Matt Damon thinks he has won the hand while KGB shows down an ever better hand that makes Matt Damon loose all his money. He gets up and leaves, consoled by his friend named Knish. Damon is forced to drive a delivery truck to make ends meat. In his monologue, we find out that Damon is a true card player who relies on skill and wit to outmatch his opponents instead of pure luck as everyone refers the game of poker to be.

Damon is enrolled in law school and lives with his girlfriend. When Mike’s friend named Worm, played by Edward Norton gets out of jail for illegally fixing a basketball game, Mike meets him at the jail and the two characters embrace as they view each other like brothers. Worm is also a card player like Mike and Worm has been playing poker all those years in prison and making new cheating skills to rig games in his favor.

Takeaways
  • Matt Damon and Edward Nrotn star as poker players
  • Norton's character owes huge debt he must pay back
  • Rounders is the best poker movie ever
