Nail polish originated in 3000 B.C. when Chinese artists combined egg white, gelatin, gum Arabic, and beeswax to create lacquers, enamels, and varnishes. The Chinese aristocrats starting use this as fingernail polish as a sign of status. It wasn't until 1915 that the Maybelline Company was founded by T. L. Williams. Two years later he introduced Maybelline Cake Mascara in which he began advertising in magazines and only selling his products by mail. Maybelline was finally made available in stores in September of 1932, which was followed by eye pencils and eye shadow. The first mass marketed automatic mascara was introduced in the early 1960's as Maybelline Ultra Lash. In 1967, the founding company was sold to Plough, Inc., which was to later become Schering-Plough Corp. in 1971. In 1973, Maybelline introduced their new product called Great Lash mascara and it soon branched into a wide variety of other face, lip and nail products. Maybelline became a publicly owned company by 1992.

After reading this short history of Maybelline you have a full understanding of how the product came to be what it is today. Most people think of nail polish as a product to be used on nails only, but this was changed by individuals exploring the vast ways to use nail polish. With this product, you can:

Tighten loose dresser-drawer knobs by dipping the end of a screw in nail polish, replacing the knob, and letting it try to get a new snug fit.

Make belt buckles shiny by painting them with Maybelline Crystal Clear Nail Polish and letting it dry. After repeating the process a few times, you'll have a new shiny glow on your belt buckle.
