Oregon is one of the most spectacular outdoors states in the country. It is famous for its beautiful mountains and the incredible rivers that traverse and criss-cross every section of the state. Some of the best fly-fishing to be had is right here. Naturally there are many outfitters who will take guided fishing trips out for a day or even a week. Many of the area's lodges have an affiliation with some great tour guides and tackle shops right on their site. Because fly-fishing has been adapted to warmer waters, it's now possible to fish for low-lying feeders like crappie and even bass with flies. And the sport has become a lot more affordable, too. No longer does it cost thousands of dollars to equip and outfit yourself with the best rods and lures and waders. This has sparked a real interest in learning this beautiful and exhilarating sport.

Fly-fishing with Stan is the name of an outfit that focuses on teaching beginners the tools of the trade, the how-tos and what and where of this sport. The class is divided into a morning and an afternoon session. The morning instruction is a basic one-on-one "how to do it" session where students learn the body and arm motions and what is actually being done when one casts out a fly. The second part of the class trains people on how to line a rod, types and sizes of line, fly leaders, how to rig a fly line and tie fishing knots. Then, students are taken on the McKensie River where they test new skills and experience casting techniques in a real outdoor fishing environment. There's a minimum of two per class and lower corporate rates are available. Call Stan Stanton after 6:00pm at 541-746-6080 or during the day on Stan's cell phone at 541-228-4999.
