It's 1:00 AM and I'm sitting here wondering how I'm going to add the finishing touches to my memoir. It's a memoir that I've been working on for three years. Granted, there are a lot of emotions attached to my story ... but three years? I've spent two of those three getting it together and editing it excessively. The last year has been filled with doubt and fear. Will an agent or publishing company accept what I've written? What if they think my story isn't worth selling? I've never been published before ... what about first-time writers? I'm happy to say that thanks to Associated Content, I'm beginning to get over my fear of manuscript rejection. Sometimes fear of rejection can paralyze a writer. Associated Content helped me overcome that fear by publishing my articles.

I've been a Content Producer since March, 2007. I found out about AC through Writer's Market (which I'm a member of). After reading the forums and some of the other Content Producers' pages, I realized we're all here for the same purpose - to write about what we know. I'll admit I was a little nervous when I submitted my first article for publication. I decided to throw caution to the wind and write what was on my mind. It ended up being submitted as an opinion piece which Associated Content accepted ... I was overjoyed! My second article was forced out of me because I had writer's block. Ironically, it's a how-to article about conquering writer's block. Associated Content has accepted that one as well. Their offer was a little higher than the first one, but for me this isn't about finances. Today I'm celebrating being published by Associated Content ... twice!

Since being published by AC, I've gained more courage to start looking for an agent for my memoir. Although it's still in its finishing stages, I have a little more confidence in my writing abilities. Because of Associated Content, I can confidently say, "I've been published before," as I send out my queries. Thank you Associated Content - you're a God-send!

Takeaways
  • Aspiring writers can gain more confidence by being published here!
  • Fear of rejection can cause writer's block or procrastination and you'll never finish a project.
  • I'm still working on my memoir after three long years because of fear of rejection.

The fear of rejection is still a problem for me. I find it easier to submit my writing to places, like Helium, where I know they won't reject it. Then later I'll think "Why didn't I submit that to Associated?" But deep down I know why. Good luck with your writing. I enjoyed reading this article.

My fear of rejection for my fiction is still alive and kicking. AC is good practice though!

I remember the fear of rejection I felt when I first started sending my work for publication. Sometimes it's difficult to overcome. Good luck with the memoir!
