Given the limited space in my travel bags, I like to buy sets of cosmetics whenever possible. For instance, having 6 different containers for eyeshadow is just out of the question. Unfortunately, the makers of the eyeshadow sets have a very bad habit of putting the weirdest shades together so I have a very hard time finding an acceptable eyeshadow kit. So, while wandering around the ol' Duty Free Shop one day, I commented on this to the Dior gal. She grinned and gently lead me over to the new Dior Detective Chic collection. Dior's sweet, sweet collection of 6 eye shadows is housed in the most darling black leather case ever. It is embroidered with white heavy thread around the edge, and has a big ol' 'D' for Dior on the faux leather belt of it on top. Very nice. In fact, shallow as i am, it is the case which really got me to fork over the 38 Euros. It is slightly bigger than I would like, but the style pleases me. It just looks ritzy.
As to the actual colors, this kit pulls off the daunting task of being quite close to what I like to wear. The Winter White is a must have for me, the light pink is one I had never used until now but am enjoying a great deal, the darker pink with sparklies I am beginning to love (except for one thing I'll get to in a moment...), Light brownish-pink is a must, the brownish-olive is new for me but also becoming dear to me, and then there is the black. Errrr. Black eyeshadow? OK, so 5 out of 6 hits ain't bad as far as these things go, and if you really want, you can wet a brush and use that one as an eyeliner.
Now, the one problem I have with this set is that sparklie pink I mentioned a moment ago. I did not notice the problem myself. I was having lunch with my dear friend Barb in Coconut Grove a while back when she remarked on a bit of sparkle on the side of my face. Thought I'd done gone all Hollywood on her or something. I was like huh?!?. Yeah. Twas that eyeshadow, I'm afraid, which allowed it's sparkles to gravitate off their target as wind gently blew across the bay. Grr.
