Travel to the Racing Capitol: Fun Summer Activities in Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis is teaming with fun events for the whole family this summer. Whether you have kids or not, and no matter what their ages age, there is something for every family.

During the month of April, be sure to check out the 15th annual "Taste of Indianapolis" even inside the Glendale Mall. Indianapolis monthly lists the top 50 restaurants in Indianapolis every year, and the Taste of Indianapolis is your ticket to sampling each of them. This event will showcase more than 50 of the city's best restaurants, and the best part is that all proceeds will benefit the Joy's House organization.

Of course, everyone wants to be in Indianapolis on May 28th for the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Motor Speedway. Racing favorites Michael Andretti, Danica Patrick, and more will be competing for the most coveted title in car racing.

The Indy Jazz festival takes place June 16-18. This event started in 1999 and has become an annual tradition. Bonnie Raitt, the Wynton Marsalis Septet and The Neville Brothers will be headlining this year's event, which, in addition to live music, will also feature local artwork, health screenings, and fun activities for kids.

You won't want to miss the Indiana State fair which runs from August 9-20 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Every year the Indiana State Fair is host to thrilling rides, fun games, great food, and live entertainment. Parking is free and wristbands are available for rides.

During July 6-16 Indianapolis holds its annual Black Expo at the RCA dome in downtown Indianapolis. Boys ll Men and En Vogue are past performers at the Black Expo, which always hosts plenty of rap and r&b artists. The Black expo will also feature events for kids, a job fair, art exhibitions, a talent competition, and a fashion show.

The Indy Irish Fest takes place Sept. 12-15 at Military Park. At the Irish Fest you can enjoy contests for children, Irish beer samples, great food, a rugby tournament, and 0ver 20 live bands along with traditional Irish dancers. You might also want to take place in the Kilted Mile, a one mile run around the grounds in a kilt. The Irish Fest also features a Celtic Mass.
