Don't miss some of the wonderful sites the largest city on the Illinois River has to offer.The Wheels O' Time Museum, 11923 N Knoxville Avenue in Peoria, showcases lots of great Peoria history including antique vehicles, clocks, tools and a ¾ size model of Charles Lindbergh's plane he flew solo to Paris in 1929, the Spirit of St. Louis. Opened in 1983, the museum is open May-October Wednesday through Sunday. The site is handicap accessible and admission is $5.50 for adults and $3 for children aged 3-11. Grand View Drive is a scenic tree-lined road in Peoria and Peoria Heights, which President Theodore Roosevelt is said to have proclaimed the World's Most Beautiful Drive when he visited in 1910. This curving drive, constructed in 1903, is lined with some beautiful homes. Along the drive, there are several places to pull off and enjoy views of the Illinois River Valley. Grand View Park is located along the drive and lower Grand View Park is at the bottom of the drive, where a World War I monument is displayed. Grand View Drive was listed with the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Access Grand View Drive from near the 4900 block of N. Prospect Road in Peoria Heights, or by taking Lorentz Avenue off of Route 29, N. Galena Road/NE Adams Street in Peoria.
