Anytime you go to a flea market you might think you are getting a bargain. As a matter of fact, this is not true. When purchasing items at a flea market, you must be just as savvy a shopper as you are at any department store. Those who find terrific deals at the market are skilled. I will let you in on their secrets. Here are some tips to find great bargains at the flea market.

Timing
There are good times of the day to go to a flea market and there are horrible times. The best part of the day is right in the beginning of the sale when vendors are still setting up their booths. Believe me, even if the market has not officially opened, no vendor will turn a sale down. The worst time of day to attend a flea market is in the middle of the day. This is usually when all of the premium items are already purchased and you still have to battle heavy crowds. However, the second best time of the day to visit a flea market is right at the end. Most vendors will sell you remaining merchandise at extremely low prices just to get rid of it.

Comparison Shop
Flea markets are like any other market: there is competition. This means that you may be able to find a specific item for a cheaper price at another vendor's booth. Since this is the case, make sure you check out all the merchandise before making your purchase.

Cost to Repair
Many people think they are getting a great deal when they buy a damaged chair at a flea market. They might think all the have to do is fix the seat or backing. However, make sure you are educated about how much repairs for various items cost before you make a flea market purchase. Some items cost more to repair than to buy new.

Haggle
Although you may not feel comfortable haggling with vendors, they expect it from you. As a matter of fact, most vendors will set their prices higher than normal so that they can bring the price down while you haggle with each other. Most flea market vendors will come down about 10% in price.
