Usually the promise of decent (read: local) modeling work is glamorous enough that many overlook certain perils. Open the newspaper and you'll discover quite a handful of ads requesting modeling talent. Talent scouts searching for the next It Girl, are certain to attract hordes of hopefuls.
These ads can read any number of ways. Many advertise modeling "conventions" wherein agents from top-rated modeling agencies like Ford or Elite are said to be scouring through mobs of civilians---in order to find their next "top models." But with so many talent scouts, agents, and other entertainment professionals roaming around, sometimes it's difficult to determine which ones are legitimate, and which ones have ulterior motives. Here are a few ways to identify the modeling crooks.

Be mindful of where you go looking to score your next big break. If you've clipped an ad for that latest modeling "convention" at your local hotel, you might want to take another look and/or reconsider.
