If you like helping people and are looking to start a business, this market is still relatively untapped. Most of the services performed by this type of business are simple. You are just helping somebody with tasks that may seem overwhelming to them as they grow older. These tasks can include such things as personal care, cooking, running errands, cleaning and handling basic home tasks. Getting help with these everyday jobs can keep your customers from getting and tired and weak, where thy may require additional home care or medical care.
In order to be successful at nonmedical home care you are going to have be flexible and be able to respond quickly at almost any given moment. You are going to have to be there when people need you. The business that responds quickly, when needed, will be the company that grows the fastest. Become good friends with the discharge department of hospitals and rehab facilities.
You will want to focus on the adult children of the elderly. They will most likely either be making the decisions or have a big input into the decision making process. You should be able to talk to these people about insurance matters and the health and well being of their loved one. They will expect you to be able to answer their questions. So you will need to be knowledgeable in many areas of elder care. You may also want to consider a website that can answer their questions. It should be easy to understand and should have a font that is easy to read.
You should locate your business in an area that is affluent enough that its residence can afford your services. You will also want to locate where employees are able to get to you. Your sales staff will need to be at ease discussing and selling your services. You will also want to hire people that are upbeat and are capable of dealing with a large variety of situations.
