When you become a Mom for the first time it really is very overwhelming. Just a year ago I was in that position and really had no clue what I was doing. Luckily though some instinct takes over and you will get by just fine. These tips are things that I learned along the way and I hope that they will help some new moms out. Remember though that what works for one mom may not work for another.

1) Always try to sleep when your baby sleeps. If you don't take this opportunity you may not get any sleep at all so no matter what time of day it may be sleep while the baby is.

2) Buy at least five different types bottles and figure out which one works best for your child and for you. Every child takes differently to different bottles and it is worth it to figure out which ones are the best early on and use them throughout the first year. My son had gas problems and we finally figured out that Dr. Brown's were the best for him after 3 months of switching bottles. Definitely do this before you try switching to a different type of formula. It may get expensive but it is worth it.

3) To avoid colds and sickness as much as possible don't take your child out of the house if its not necessary for the first few months. I see a lot of people with their newborn babies out in public nowadays and I really think that is a huge contributor to sickness in young babies. I think it will be different for every family how much you take your child out but if you do limit it as much as possible it will keep your child healthier.

4) Don't be afraid to speak up when it comes to your baby. At this stage in your life a lot of people are going to try and tell you what to do or not do but ultimately it is your decision. If you don't want someone to hold your child tell them no. If someone is handing out advice when you do not what it tell them thanks but you have it under control. If they have a problem with this then oh well.

These are great tips! Although I am expecting my second, it's been 10 years so it's as if this is my first. Thanks for the refresher! :)
