First of all, you need to gather up all of your options. Find out what hospitals in the area have labor and delivery units or birthing centers. It is possible that not all hospitals are equipped for delivery. Keep in mind what hospitals have preemie units, and how long it will take you to access each hospital from your home. Once you have your list, you are ready to start your research.
More important than any other research is to ask everyone you know who has had a baby in the past five years where they gave birth and what their experience was like. Only ask mothers who have had recent deliveries since hospitals can change dramatically over time. Ask about the nursing staff, the delivery rooms, visitation rules, etc. Get as much information as you can from your most valuable tool: experienced people.
