Synonymous with 'New York City' are countless tourist attractions, including the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and the grand Trump International Hotel. Along with these attractions are some of the intricacies the city is known for, including its vibrant and dynamic lower Manhattan neighborhoods, its international cuisine, and its melting pot of immigrants from across the globe. In addition to this, New York City boasts attractions that are not quite popular with the general public. These are the 'underrated gems' of the city that aren't usually crowded or on everyone's 'must visit' list.

Teddy Roosevelt's Birthplace - Teddy Roosevelt was born in 1858 in this restored townhouse right in the heart of the Gramercy Park area in New York City. Although the house was destroyed in 1916, a group of fundraisers bought the sight and recreated it back to its original image in 1919 as a memorial. Today, the house has some furnishings from the original house along with contributions by the Roosevelt family. Visitors can enjoy a 40 minute tour of the house by a National Park Ranger, who have achieved reputations for being very knowledgeable. Expect to see news clippings and original items owned by one of the most revered presidents of our time.

The best time to go is on weekdays, as it is less crowded.
