With all of the grandeur surrounding New York City, it is easy to get lost in the shuffle of Barneys, Trump Hotel reservations, and walks along the Conservatory Garden in Central Park. Anybody would tell you that New York is an excellent place to raise children. It is an even better place to take them. In going on city excursions with the kids, parents may hold the misconception that there is nothing for their kids to do. This couldn't be further from the truth! Here are some attractions your young toddlers and young adults will be sure to enjoy.

The New York Aquarium

Located at Coney Island in the city's biggest borough, the New York Aquarium holds tanks with 300 pound sharks and hands on displays that demonstrate how tidal pools work and wave machines which help simulate ocean wave activity in the beach. The New York Aquarium provides the perfect blend of awareness education and conservation. In addition to sharks, there are walruses, sea otters, fur seals, and other water animals diving around by the huge simulation pools. As an added bonus, there is an aqua theater (a huge water hold) where your children can watch dolphin shows and get splashed in the front row.

You can get there via subway by taking the F or D trains to Brooklyn and getting off at West 8th Street

On the New York Aquarium story, please note that the Aquatheater show is with California sea lions, not dolphins.
