In this Macromedia Fireworks tutorial I will show you how to create the black and white cross text in my image. Please see the image that I have provided to see the outcome of this tutorial. This cross text is really simple to make. Beginners can create this text effect too. I will write this tutorial in detail so that the new Fireworks users can create this text effect too. Open your Fireworks program and let it load.

How to Create a Black and White Cross Text Effect in Fireworks

First, we will create a new canvas to work on. Go to the top of your Fireworks window and click File > New. Create your canvas 500 pixels by 300 pixels. You can crop your text at the end of this tutorial. Set your background color to white and click the OK button.

Next, we will type the text on the canvas. Select your type tool in your toolbar. Draw a text field across your canvas to type in. Type what you want in the text field. I used Jasmine for my text example. Highlight your text and change the font options to the following.

Font Style - Orbus Multiserif
Font Size - 100
Font Color - Black

If you do not have this font installed on your computer, you can download it from freefonts.com.

Next, we will apply an Inner Bevel effect to the text. Click Effects > Bevel and Emboss > Inner Bevel in your properties window. When the Inner Bevel box opens, apply the following.

Bevel Edge Shape - Sloped
Width - 21
Contrast - 75%
Softness - 3
Angle - 135
Button Preset - Raised

Click off of the box to close it.

Next, we will apply the Inset Emboss effect to the text. Go to the bottom of your Fireworks window and click Effects > Bevel and Emboss > Inset Emboss. When the box opens, apply the following.

Width - 2
Contrast - 75%
Softness - 2
Angle - 135

Click off of the box to close it.

The last effect that we are going to apply is the Outer Bevel. Click Effects > Bevel and Emboss > Outer Bevel. When the outer bevel box opens, apply the following.

Bevel Edge Shape - Ring
Width - 6
Contrast - 75%
Color - White
Softness - 3
Angle - 135
Button Preset - Raised

Click off of the box to close it.
