We've all heard the theory that a lot of pets look like their owners. Now more than ever this can be attained - through animal plastic surgery! Yes, our society is becoming so obsessed with appearances that apparently even pets can't be allowed to look like "a dog" anymore. Maybe you've had a few things "done" and now your pet's look just can't keep up. Make an appointment with the local pet plastic surgeon for a little surgical makeover for your furry friend.

A Brazilian surgeon who specializes in animal plastic surgery has a special way to justify his pet practice. Dr. Edgado Brito says that the animal's health comes first but that if the owner thinks that their pet is attractive they will have a better relationship. "Good symmetry is very important. All that is not symmetric we don't like." Excuse me, but who said everything has to match perfectly? It's nice when things look balanced, but what's unbalanced is this out of control need for absolute perfection in ourselves and now our pets. I thought one of the great things about having a pet was their unconditional love. They love us and respond to us no matter what we look like, can't we return the favor? Isn't it possible to have a good relationship with someone, or some animal, who is less than perfect? Is it possible that only the world's most beautiful people and animals can be truly happy? Judging from the news headlines I would have to say no.

People are such superficial idiots! This makes me so incredibly angry. There are people dying, in our own country no less, of malnutrition, people without homes, children that are afraid to go to school because it's too dangerous; But all we can think to do with our money is to make our pets more "beautiful." I'm sorry, i love pets, but they are NOT people. This costs an incredible amount of money, and it only serves to put an animal in danger. No matter what kind of surgery, there is always a risk. What kinds of things could that money be spent on? The dogs DO NOT friggin' care about their appearance. Its just people that are obsessed with what they perceive to be greatness. To be ugly is to be unique, to be beautiful is to be like everyone else. If anyone had any kind of conscience they would spend the thousands of dollars they spent on this self centered, degenerate pursuit on something that ACTUALLY matters.

What a horrible thing to do to an animal. People who do that are as bad as those mothers who dress their children like prostitutes and put them in demeaning beauty pageants. What's next? If you can't accept an innocent animal for they way they are, then you shouldn't have a pet in the first place. I just hope the people who get these procedures done on their pets don't have children. I'd hate to see what they would do to them if their eyes weren't blue enough or the ears too big. I thought love was unconditional...maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

"Good symmetry is very imporant." In a dog? Why? This guy is a nut. In my opinion it borders on criminal to put a defenseless animal through the pain of plastic surgery for no reason other than to alter its looks. If people were doing this to toddlers, who also can't speak for themselves, there would be a huge public outcry. We should also be outraged that this is happening to animals. Those of us who love them are their voice, and they deserve to be defended.

Great article, but the concept makes me sick! :>)

Good writing. My little yorkie girl is perfect just the way she is! It's hard to imagine people spending their money on cosmetic surgery for their pets! I can see, of course, for health reasons, but purely cosmetic, that's really dumb! Fun article to read, though.

No way! This is so weird. I'm looking at my cat right now, trying to imagine her with a nose job. Needless to say, I can't even begin to picture it.

Good article, sarcastic too. :)

Wow. Have we really downgraded that far? I can understand health reasons, but cosmetic, for your pet? I have an ugly dog, and I mean really, really ugly, and I would not change one bit of fur on her ugly little face. I love her just the way she is. And she didn't care when I gained 40 pounds either.

And I thought buying your pets clothes was weird...

This is too weird, FROM THE ARTICLE "Animals cannot consent to cosmetic surgery." Exactly. Congrats on the showcase.

Great article! I had a man once who wanted to buy one of my Chihuahua puppies, and clip the ears and tail to make it look like a minature pit bull. Is that sick or what? Needless to say he DID NOT get one of my puppies. I wonder how he would have felt if someone wanted to "Clip" him, to change him into a descent human being?
