NHRA Charlotte Funny Car Results-Does Robert Hight Deserve to Be in the Top 10?
After a long bye week, we are down to only 6 races left in the 2009 NHRA racing season. Amid the playing of the racer interviews, it's obvious that John Force is ready to move on, though the Pedregons seem a bit more reluctant to let it go. This race promises to be an exciting beginning to the end of the 2009 season.
Did the stress and intensity in the atmosphere today affect either driver's game today? The answer appears to be yes. Both Tony and John get put out in the first round. In subsequent interviews, it is obvious that John just wants to put this behind him, but is it because he feels guilty? How about because he's afraid he's losing fans? Who knows, but he's obviously ready to bury the hatchet and start racing and stop fighting. John did say something that I absolutely agree with. He's paid his fine, he's done his time, now let's get back to racing. There's no doubt that the incident hurt his image, but John's been around a long time and he will recover.
The other notable results of round 1 were that Ashley beat out teammate Mike Neff. With Tony losing in round one, Ashley gets an opening to take the number one spot in the points race. Her hole shot win definitely shows she's been practicing on the tree. Robert Hight and Cruz Pedregon both also advance to round two, giving us hope that there might be a match up between the two after all. Beckman wins over Worsham, Tasca, III wins over Capps, who by the way has now lost three times consecutively in round one.
Unfortunately, with Tony out of the running early, we won't get to see the grudge race that we'd all hoped for, pitting Force against Pedregon. Oh well, there's always Dallas.
The first race of round two starts us out with the disappointing loss of Jeff Arend to Matt Hagan. Ashley Force Hood takes the win over Jim Head, even though she's stuck in the dreaded right lane, taking her to the semi final round. Robert Hight gets an impressive win over Bob Tasca, III, once again in the right lane, pitting him against Ashley in the semis. Fast Jack Beckman hazed the tires mid track, giving Cruz the win, giving him the semi final round against Matt Hagan.
