Dave Chappelle Does Six-Hour Stand-Up Routine, Gets Fined $2,200

Infamous comedian Dave Chappelle provided a special treat to those visiting the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Sunday night (April 15th 2007): a six-hour gut busting performance...

DaveChappelle Breaks a Record...

Dave Chappelle broke a record at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, for having the longest recorded stand-up session in the nightclub's 28 year history. Taking the stage at 10:36 p.m., the comedian and movie star did not wrap up his comic tirades until 4:43 a.m. on Monday. Only one

other comedian has come close to the record. Per the club's owner, Jamie Masada, Dane Cook set a record previously in the year with his 3 hour and 50 minute performance. But until then, Richard Pryor had been known to take the stage the longest, with his 2 hour and 41 minute set in 1980.

During the comedic session, 150 people were in attendance. Per representatives from the night club, only about a dozen or so attending the show, left before it was completely over. It is reported that Chappelle showed up at the hot spot unannounced, and proceeded to command the stage, making the audience laugh for six hours non-stop.

"He was absolutely amazing, for six hours making people laugh," Masada said Tuesday, of Chappelle's long comedy routine.

Chappelle's Humor Cost Him $2,200

But it was Chappelle's candid approach in his humor which also got the 6-hour record breaker fined $2,200 by Masada himself. Since the debacle surrounding comic Michael Richards' racial slurs, Jamie Masada imposed a rule that no comedian could use the "N-word" at any time on stage; doing so, would result in a fine.

Chappelle touched on many sensitive topics---everything from "President Bush's buffoonery" to the owner, Jamie Masada himself. Ultimately, he broke the "N-word" rule many times throughout his performance.
