On Wednesday, April 18th, 2007, a devastating series of bomb attacks across Iraq killed a total of 148 people and wounding dozens more in what was called by some witnesses a "swimming pool of blood". This comes in days after a terrorist bomber slipped through the strict security net known as the Green Zone in Baghdad, and detonated their ordinance in a parliamentary cafeteria. Far more devastating on people's morale than on actual human lives, the attack demonstrated a number of things to the world - surprisingly more good than bad.

It has been determined that the attack on April 18th was carried out, once more, by al-Qaeda in Iraq, a group quickly losing its power base in powerful Sunni Insurgent Groups - most importantly the semi-legitimate Ba'ath Party who would be vital to their control - and reported in a previous article as "near to defeat" in an unheralded victory in Iraq. Naturally an immediate thought upon seeing that they are still strong enough to carry out a devstating attack that took the lives of 148 people would be that al-Qaeda is still strong, that they are successfully dodging American patrols and attacks, that they are still standing strong. This of course has no historical precedent, and requires a bit of context, like anything else, to be understood correctly.

It was stated in a previous article that al-Qaeda in Iraq is being defeated not just by the American forces, but by Sunni Insurgent Factions who have turned on the brutal tactics of the foreign terror nation. Naturally, an organization such as the Ba'ath Party, who are not necessarily religious fanatics but factions interested in retaking control of the country from the current government, are intolerant of the idea of foreigners entering the country and tearing it into civil war, and borderline genocide.

What kind of impact, can the average American, hope to learn about on the "warfront" - if it can even be called that?
