In a small town of 12,000 people we have a handful of choices when it comes to selecting a place to eat. For lunch we have the normal fast food chains, McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's that almost every other town has, but when it is time for dinner, a meal I like to enjoy slowly as to feel full longer, we have few choices. We do, however, have the one and only one of it's kind in the world, J. Milton's: Steaks and Buffet. J. Milton's is an upscale dinning establishment that seats around 300.

When the restaurant was first established it was the only steak house/buffet in town and enjoyed that title for sometime. Dinner menu pricing ranges from $5.99 to as high as $18.99 but the average dinner is around $14 including drinks. While this used to be the premier destination for a romantic dinner date with good food, a nice atmosphere, with candle lit tables after 4, they have startled to slip from their prestigious placement in the community.

I am constantly on the look out for a good salad, I just love em, and J. Milton's was near the top of my list for a truly decent salad bar. Now their salad dressing is so diluted it's like pouring water. The cubed ham has been replaced with a less costly ham-flavored turkey which actually tastes like bologna. The lettuce is always floating in water and turning brown. In a day and age where companies are always trying to cut costs, I feel that a restaurant should cut employees or hours, instead of food quality. The buffet, while always fully stocked with food and piping hot, contains mostly side dishes such as mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and fried okra. While fried chicken is on the buffet almost constantly, there is few other meat or main entrée choices available.
