The Top Five Unsung Heroes of Sports
All sports fans have players they love for absolutely no reason. They aren't especially talented and aren't the prettiest players but they have an undeniable charm to them. These players are the unsung heroes of a team. They do their job every night with
little recognition. This list will give those players the credit they deserve.
Here they are....
1. Kurt Rambis: Let me tell you something about Kurt Rambis. He "ain't no joke". According to my friend R.W., the Rambinator was kick ass. He is the influence behind the popular "Mongoose" character who heckles Kobe Bryant during television commercials. With big goggles and a wicked 'stache, Rambis resembled that old guy who comes to your pick up game who is way too serious about his game. Best remembered for being clotheslined by Kevin McHale in the playoffs, everyone loves the Rambinator's hustle and heart.
2. Jiri Slegr: My love of Jiri Slegr comes from playing NHL 2005 for the Xbox. Paul and I would play as the Columbus Blue Jackets. We would create ourselves and a bunch of other crazy characters. The team lacked something though. It lacked an enforcer. We looked around the league until we found Jiri Slegr. He was by no means the most talented player but he had character. Getting him a goal was more important than any win. We loved Jiri Slegr for his heart and sheer lack of skill.
3. Bernie Federko: I loved collecting cards when I was younger. The neighborhood kids and I focused on hockey cards. We loved the Red Wings and played hours of street hockey everyday. There was one coveted card in all of Wexy. The Bernie Federko Red Wings card. None of us really knew anything about Federko except he had a funny name and a sweet 'stache. It started off as a joke. My neighbor Josh tried to play off this Federko card as the most valuable card on the block. We ended up playing along and by the end everyone wanted that card. I later find out Federko was on of the most underrated players in NHL history and still holds many records at Michigan. None of us would have cared about this though. We just admired his well groomed facial hair.
