There are two types of people who eat Chinese food in the United States; those who eat it for the taste and those who seek to assimilate themselves in the experience; forks vs. chopsticks. I must say, with no shame whatsoever, I fall squarely into the former; though I've tried desperately, I've never been able to seem to get the hang of those sticks with rare exception, but I do heartily enjoy the food. One such favorite place where I've unabashedly used a fork for more than a decade now has been Sammy's Noodle Shop in the West Village of Manhattan. Not wanting to cheat on these articles though, as soon as I found out about this writing opportunity for Associated Content, I phoned up my old friend Janet and we met up at Sammy's for lunch to pore over their lunch specials, which everyone who is in New York from 11-4 any weekday should check out.
The lunch menu is rather narrow, but there are a number of items on their menu which are around lunch special price, regardless. If you go during the daytime and you're bringing one friend, even with a generous tip you needn't worry about more than $20.00 when all's said and done. Sammy's lunch special menu runs a cool $5.25 for these gargantuan entrees which are sure to satisfy even the most voracious mid day appetites.
If nothing on the lunch menu tickles your fancy, you're more than welcome to check out their traditional entrees (I sometimes am driven to get their General Tso's Chicken, not on the lunch specials, during the day; all white meat - and I take home leftovers which last for days) One item of note is that this place is called Sammy's "Noodle" Shop so any of their delectable noodle choices are available and they're fantastic! Their Lo Mien noodles are fat and full with a great dressing, vegetables, and your choice of chicken, beef, pork, vegetable, or shrimp. Also a pretty great lunch option for those chilly days is their soups which are perfect for a couple including Cantonese wonton soup, watercress soup, and Tofu vegetable soup among many others.
