Today started out just like any other. I made coffee and settled down at my computer to answer my correspondence. As I quickly scanned the subject matter of the long list of emails, one immediately caught my attention. The byline, "How to Become an Illegal Alien"...jumped out at me, peaking my curiosity. Having worked with many illegal aliens in past assignments, I wondered if this was a new project being outlined to me or was someone playing a joke.

As I scanned the email, I noticed it was a copy of a letter addressed to Democrat Sen. Tom Harkin from Iowa. Although the opening statement prefaced this was an "actual letter" sent to the Senator, it was crystal clean this was someone's over-the-top ploy to garner attention.

The Iowa constituent opens his letter by announcing his desire to denounce his Citizenship in favor of becoming an illegal alien. The writer states he is fed up with the benefits of American Citizenship and thinks the grass is greener on the other side of the proverbial fence. Smacking of sarcasm, he rationalizes the socio-economical rewards illegal aliens are purported to receive out-weight his citizenship benefits. He ends his tirade with a plea for the Senator to pass this letter on so others can take advantage of "this great offer".

The Illegal Alien Letter

The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone (202) 224 3254
Washington DC,
20510

Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

Takeaways
  • The more progress we make, the more divided our nation becomes on social, moral & political issues.
  • Can the first seeds of discontent (that end in mass carnage) have started with a sarcastic letter?
  • Angry people try to influence and manipulate society's standards through actions & propaganda.
Did You Know?
Letter writers state they are fed up with American Citizenship and think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Constitutes may have indulged in plagiarism as identical letters were sent to several Senators.

I have a question on the illegal immigrant situation. When is our government going to do what they promised and crack down and prosecute the employers who knowing they are illegal hire these people and exploit them . This is capitalism at its best. As during the post World War II era when big business found a cheaper source of labor by hiring women and discriminating with lower wages. This is not good for our society and i hope every union hall in this country rises up (SOON) to the call and organizes these unfortunate people and goes after the employers for higher wages and better benefits so they can live decent lives. Who is really reaping the benefits of exploiting these people: none other than the wealthy and the business world.

Wait... I thought the ultimate goal was to take the majority of the Citizens' income and use that to pay for the education and health-care of illegal aliens in neighboring countries under the pretenses of being "good natured", to eventually take their income and move onto a different country. Meanwhile, as things are getting better temporarily for the illegal aliens, things are getting worse for the People. I can completely understand why some people buy into communism, I have just never read or seen where it has successfully made everyone happy.

Couldn't have anything to do with over-crowded schools filled with illegals or their U.S. born children. The influx has already degraded the public school systmes in this country, the emergency rooms are closing daily it seems. Where does it end, when every bit of the infrastructure of this country is at its knees? Frankly, the fate of ROME is upon us, the choice is ours, if we don't prevent this type of alien influx, we will fall. The notion of empathy, sympathy or the like for illegal aliens is pure falisy, and ignorance plain and simple. I'm not completely heartless, as they may be good people I understand, but lets help them get their country's living conditions better so they will just stay home.

Why not invite every third world citizen to live in the US as well. I hear Africa has a few million or so. Sure lets bring everyone's wages to the gutter. Frankly, people are idiots to say American's don't want these jobs... The truth is, American's don't want jobs that have low pay scales, and poor conditions, because the "day laborer" has degraded the standards. In their homeland, if they demanded just a portion of what they demanded from the US, they might be able to make it into a nice place to live. At some point, they have to grow huevos and stand up to the cartel de jour. Take control of your own country's destiny. Instead, they think its easier to petition the U.S. Congress to grant amnesty. Amnesty will start the American Civil War II all over -- I guarantee you that. Oddly enough, I'm witness to high-paying American jobs going to foreigners, as there is a shortage of intelligent American's apparently. Couldn't have anything to do with over-crowded schools filled wi

I agree with your last sentence - about standing up for what is right. We are a country with laws and, if we don't enforce them (like all other civilized nations do), we will eventually descend into chaos. Perhaps when we hit third world status all the nations we've sent billions to over the years can return a portion of it - but don't hold your breath.
