One of the most cliché groups your child will ever join in this school year is band - or at least, that's the truth where I live. Artistic and musical talents are flying through their mind, and they feel fascinated with trying new things; however, they also might lose interest in a matter of days. When they bring up learning an instrument, it is extremely important to plan out the financial steps because an instrument can cost close to a thousand dollars - definitely not a small sum of money for a one time fun!

There are normally a couple of pay plans you can choose at your local music store. Personally, I would say not to go for the most expensive instrument at first, and to research a lot before you decide which brand to purchase. Flute, for example, has an extremely good brand which may be even better than the "top" brand available in the store for much less. Below are the pros and con's of purchasing three of these pay plans.

Purchasing the instrument - one time plan

Pros: If you decide to purchase an instrument, then, you're saving more money than if you were to rent, and then purchase the instrument. If things don't go well, you can always sell the instrument back to the store at a discounted price. Purchasing an instrument in a one time plan will mean that the instrument is yours; you can do whatever you please with it. As well, generally instruments last a long time, and you can pass it on to the younger siblings.

Cons: If your child happens to be one of those kids who lose interest fast, they may also lose interest in the instrument, and drop out of band or change instrument. It's definitely a waste of money for a one time spree. As well, the pay plan can also be quite hefty as some instruments can even go up to more than a thousand dollars.
