They're not the best singers, but they grow on you after a while. Then what happens?

While American Idol's current underdog, Sanajaya Malakar, makes his exit after his unlikely run as the latest American Idol love-him-or-hate-him performer, let's take a look at what underdogs from prior seasons are up to now.

Remember little Kevin Covais from American Idol 5 who was dubbed "Chicken Little?" Kevin's performance of Don McLean's "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)" really wasn't too shabby in my opinion. Kevin was only a junior in high school during his sojourn on American Idol. He is graduating from high school this year. He is also currently involved in a film, according to IMDB.

Scott Savol, was the fifth finalist on Season 4 of Idol. Week after week, "Scotty the Body" hung in there, despite the judges' negative comments and "pack-your-bags" jabs from Simon Cowell. Savol managed to earn a fifth-spot finish on Season 4 of Idol. Ironically, his last number, "On Broadway,",which he sang defiantly to Simon, included the lyrics "they say that I won't last too long ..." Scott also survived The Smoking Gun's report that he had been charged with assault for hitting the mother of his son. Simon Cowell said that Scott had "more escapes tha Houdini."

According to his Wikipedia entry, Scott was hired last year to perform at the Shore Cultural Center in his native Ohio for $2,500.00. Although Scott has a myspace profile, it doesn't seem that anyone's keeping it current since the comments section is full of spam. However, his website, www.scottsavol.com, does have a more up-to-date list of what is currently going on in his life.

Right after Scott, Anthony Fedorov was out the door in Idol 4, finishing in fourth place. Like Sanjaya, Anthony's undoing came in country music week, after he sang "I'm Already There" by Lonestar and "If You Don't Know Me By Now" by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, despite the fact that the judges liked his performances.
