My soul may have been taken but my spirit lived on......
The changes I see to be positive are I am still advocating. Receiving comments and emails from many who have been raped and do not report. Being a voice for the others who do not want to speak out are even report a sexual assault. I have been asked in several emails about the changes, this is a short summary of the laws changed over the Ali Rasai Case...
The Edmonton Police Service changed the bail check in policy, offenders who commit serious crimes before just signed in at the front desk.
It was changed to have the unit involved, like sex crimes unit directly see the person checking in at the Edmonton Police Service as ordered by the courts.
The BAIL CHECK IN POLICY was changed so Victims of Major Crimes would be notified about the offender making bail. In a sexual assault case the victim would know if the person was released after being denied bail at the Court of Queen's Bench Level in our Justice System in the Province of Alberta.
I feel this is important for assaults because the victim has been violated when sex assault occurs.
This is one way for them to feel empowered, have control back if they know the offender will be released until the trial begins.
Finally immigration decided to finger print at the border even if refugee status was being asked for, it is very important in several cases because Rasai's of the world who are fleeing from International Charges may not be able to enter Canada.
If 15 years ago Ali Rasai was finger printed in Canada at the border, he possible would have been on Interpol. NOT allowed to be in Canada. The way Ali Rasai entered the country illegal with the invalid passport.

What I truly feel is my spirit and soul has survived in many ways a violent act of being rape.
It is amazing to think of all the victims in this case, I still want to see change.
I would like the National Hotline in Canada! The United States has Rainn! Bringing education awareness about the justice system.

Does it make a difference, yes it does?
