On Thursday, April 19, John McCain made a stop at a South Carolina VFW hall for the "Straight Talk" tour and most definitely lived up to the name of the tour he was supporting. When asked when he though the United State was going to send an "air mail message to Tehran," he replied to the tune of the Beach Boys' hit "Barbara Ann" only it was "Bomb, bomb, bomb... bomb, bomb Iran." He then added that he supported the President in his efforts to stop Iran from destroying Israel and said we should be concerned about their nuclear aspirations.

Of course once media outlets heard the news, everyone was in an uproar about his lack of tact and political correctness. The website MoveOn.org is even launching an ad campaign against McCain, estimated to cost them $200,000. They are quoted by Associated Press as arguing that "the nation can't afford to have another reckless president."

Instead of apologizing like most politicians and people attacked by the media, John McCain told them to "lighten up and get a life." He said it was only a joke meant to amuse his old veteran friends. How refreshing is that? Finally we have a presidential candidate willing to stand their ground even when attacked by the big bad media, who often tend to control most everything about politicians and their views.

McCain has always been very clear on his support in aggressive control of rogue states. Although it's probably not the best political move from all sides of the board, his comments may actually bring some right-wing conservatives back to his side that thought he had gone soft and flip-floppy concerning international relations.

That's a fair telling. You've got me interested in McCain as a candidate. I always had respect for him. Definitely not a wuss or a weinie. I wonder how it would be if we had to "walk a mile in his shoes" through a North Vietnamese POW camp with 2 broken arms, a broken shoulder, and a broken leg. I don't think I could have survived that.
