Restaurant Review: The Shipwreck Tavern in Bayville, New York
This Friday night I went with my wife and his best friend to the Shipwreck Tavern located on 10 Bayville Ave in Bayville, NY. I must say I was expecting a lot after visiting the restaurants website shipwreckpub.com. It is very well done and makes the restaurant look very well themed and fun.
Upon arrival, a very messy looking woman sat us. Her hair looked uncombed and she was wearing khaki shorts and an over-sized jacket. As we were seated, I noticed that everyone working in the restaurant was wearing khaki shorts and t-shirts. I was immediately disappointed because the prices I was seeing on the menu were not prices for a casual dinner, they were pretty steep prices. So we ordered our appetizers.
I ordered the Jumbo Buffalo Chicken wings, which were $10. They were not Jumbo, but they were very good. My wife order the Macaroni & Cheese which was $10. I have to say, that was really quite good. Our friend ordered the Chicken Griddle Baked Quesadilla, which was $10. Those were good too. So after appetizers, we were all pretty happy.
For main course, I ordered the Linguine and Clam Sauce, with white sauce, which was $18. It was a little overpriced for a plate of linguine with a few clams. It definitely wasn't the best, but it was tasty and I enjoyed it. Our friend ordered Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich which was $11. He loved it, he said it had a great flavor, and the price was just right.
Now my wife ordered from the specials that our waitress had told us about when we were seated. He ordered the Seafood Fra Diablo with Lobster Tail. The price was completely outrageous at $42, we didn't know the price until we got the bill. We were so shocked when we saw the price especially after eating the dish. First of all, when it was first brought to our table, it didn't have a lobster tail on it, it had a lobster claw. So my wife sent it back. They brought it back out with the lobster tail. The sauce was just your basic tomato sauce, no kick like a fra diablo is supposed to have. And to make it even worse, my wife said some of the seafood was cold. Very disappointing. And with that super high price, you would expect much much more.
