What Are Ragdoll Cats?

Ragdolls are a beautiful breed of cat known for their gentle temperament and affectionate nature. They probably have the sweetest personality out of all cat breeds. They actually get the name ragdoll because many of them are so trusting of people that when you pick them up they go completely limp and totally relax, just like a ragdoll.Ragdolls haven't actually been around that long, only since around the 1960's. Ann Baker, a cat breeder, bred certain cats together out of Persians and Burmese Cats. She selected cats that had the personality and temperament she wanted for breeding. She is accredited with creating the Ragdoll breed.
Ragdolls are very beautiful cats. They are a semi longhaired cat and come in three different color varieties, which are bicolor, mitted, and colorpoint. The point colors come in blue, seal, chocolate, lilac, cream, and red. All ragdolls have beautiful blue eyes too. The ragdoll is the largest domesticated cat breed, reaching weights of up to twenty pounds!
If you get a Ragdoll, you will absolutely love their personality. They love to be with people all the time and tend to follow their owners everywhere like a puppy. I'm sure you've noticed that most cats tend to be very independent. Ragdolls are not like this at all. They love to be with their owners all the time. Some of these cats even display many dog like characteristics like fetching a ball!
If you are looking for an active, playful cat, this is not the breed for you. They are extremely laid back. Because of this, you should never keep this cat outside. They are so docile that they will not even defend themselves. This laid back nature also means that they don't like to jump up on table and other places that you don't want your cats to be.
Even though this cat has semi long hair, it doesn't shed that much. Their hair does not become matted and doesn't need constant combing like other breeds such as the Persian.
When you get a Ragdoll, please be aware that these are expensive cats. The prices vary depending on the color of the cat. Make sure you get your cat from a reputable breeder though so that you know that it is healthy and comes from good blood lines.
