Freddy Krueger, who is a character that was burned to death by the community for being a suspected child murderer, then comes back to life in the dreams of others, set to terrorize and murder teens as they sleep. The role was made famous by Robert Englund in the early 1980's, and the original Nightmare on Elm Street movie spawned several sequels including A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985), A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors (1987), A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988), A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989), Freddy Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991), and Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994).

While A Nightmare of Elm Street did see much success with the series of sequels, none of them were as terrifying as the original A Nightmare on Elm Street.
