In Pepper Pike, OH, during the 1960's, Vince Marotta watched over North American Systems building housing developments and shopping malls. Marotta had fell ill in 1968 when business was bad and while he was recuperating he realized how much he disliked the way percolated coffee was made and decided he could do better. To find out more information about the coffee growing business, he contacted the Pan American Coffee Bureau to discover that South American coffee growers made their coffee from extracting the coffee beans oil by heating the beans in water at 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Irv Schultze was an engineer hired by Marotta to develop a bimetal actuator that could control the temperature of the boiling water. Marotta later discovered that restaurants where using white cloth in their coffee making machines to capture the loose coffee grounds, and this is when he decided to develop a paper filter for his coffeemaker.

Mr. Coffee made its first appearance at the Housewares Convention in Chicago in 1970. Bill Howe was hired on the spot to represent his product as he was a buyer with Hamilton Beach. Howe had invited a 100 of the buyers to Marotta's hotel room to try out the new coffee, and it was within two years time that they had started selling 42,000 Mr. Coffee's a day. In 1987, Marotta sold his company and the company went publicly owned in 1990.

Coffee filters have long been thought as retaining the coffee grounds when retaining coffee, but rarely as a household product to tidy up or improve your home. With Mr. Coffee Filters, you can:

Protect china by separating your dishes with a single coffee filter between each separate dish.

Protect a cast-iron skillet by placing the product in the skillet as it will prevent rust by absorbing the moisture.

Apply shoe polish by balling up the product and then using it to wipe shoe polish on your shoes for a nice shine.

Clean glass by using your coffee filter as a rag since the product is lint-free.

Filter broke cork from wine by filtering the wine through the product if your cork breaks when you open the bottle.
