The joy of fishing, even if you do not catch anything, cannot be matched. The idea of spending a quite day on a boat, or fishing from shore and the cares of everyday life melt away appeals to men, women and children a like. And there is no reason why everyone, no matter how mobile they are, cannot enjoy the pleasures of fishing. There are more and more resorts, and other recreational business realizing that making their business, or community handicapped accessible is good for their business. There are some great handicapped accessible fishing opportunities in New York. Both on the dock and on a boat. But if you want more handicapped accessible fishing to be available, you have to use what is already there. The more handicapped accessible facilities that are used, the more there will be for everyone to enjoy.

Assisted Fishing is located in the town of Ballston Lake, near Saratoga Springs, New York. The Lake itself is a fisherman's paradise with large and small mouth bass just being two of the types of fish making Ballson Lake home. The Lake is so clean, it can be used for drinking water. This is one of the premier summer vacation spots in New York. Assisted Fishing takes only handicapped and senior citizens and there is a ramp that allows wheelchairs to be put right on the deck. It does not matter what the handicap is, they will make arrangements. Just contact them. You need to have a New York State fishing license and get to the dock. They are opening their first chapter on the East Coat in Albany, New York in 2007 and already have their first trip planed. The organization began in 1986 with the dream of one person and it has grown every year since.
