Thousands of Mauritians were present for the ceremony to see their country liberated from the clutches of the Queen of England. Mauritius then became a republic of Mauritius n 1992. Again, this ceremony was performed in Champs de Mars, Port Louis.
Mauritius is often referred to as the Paradise Island (Paradize Island). The one S (SSS) of Mauritius which have given it an international reputation as a location of choice for tourists are the sun, sea & sand. Mauritius is also popular for deep sea fishing for Blue Marlin. Some types of Blue Marlin are found only in the lagoon of Mauritius & no where else in the whole world.
