Philadelphia Sixers 2009-2010 Game-By-Game Predictions
Can Young Louis Williams and Rookie Jrue Holiday Make Up for the Departure of Veteran Point Guard Andre Miller?
During the summer of 2008 the Philadelphia 76ers signed highly coveted free agent Elton Brand to address their lack of a low post presence. However, due to injury, Brand played in just 29 games during the 2008-2009 campaign. This season the 76ers look forward to a healthy Elton Brand providing them a low post option to supplement their transition game. This past summer the 76ers were unable to come to terms with veteran point guard Andre Miller, whom they loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. With Miller's departure the 76ers are left with a less than ideal point guard duo of fourth-year player Louis Williams and rookie Jrue Holiday. Williams is more of a scoring combo guard than a traditional point; Holiday is a young 19-year old rookie who only played one year in college. However, new head coach Eddie Jordan will install the Princeton Offense which is based on cutting, motion, and passing. This offensive system along with the athleticism of wings Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young may reduce the need of a traditional point guard, thereby taking some of the pressure off of Williams and Holiday. The 76ers also acquired sharp shooter Jason Kapono, who will help spread the floor, which will give Elton Brand space to operate in the paint and provide cutting lanes for the athletic Iguodala and Young.
