When you think of dance classes, you probably think of little girls with pigtails and pink tutus twirling around to classical music, but with the popularity of "Dancing With the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance," adults are turning to dance classes in record numbers. More and more dance studios are not just tolerating adult students, but welcoming them with special programs designed with adult interests in mind. From Ballroom dancing to West Coast Swing to the Mambo, lessons in all forms of dance can be found in Little Rock.

The Ballroom Company on Cantrell Road in West Little Rock specializes in the style of dance that many adults are most eager to learn. Group lessons are available for those with and without partners, along with monthly public Friday night dances. Private lessons are also available with nationally renowned dance instructors.

The Fred Astair Dance Studio in the Lakewood Shopping Center is one of the national franchises most successful outlets. Styles of dance offered include Ballroom, Latin, Swing and Salsa. Weekly group lessons are popular as are the frequent practice parties and private lessons. "Dancing With the Stars" watch parties are also popular events.

The Dancers' Studio offers popular Irish Dance classes at various locations in and around the Little Rock area. Classes are offered at 7:30 every Thursday in North Little Rock and 7:30 every Tuesday in Sherwood. Beginners to advanced adults are welcomed. Classes are $10 a session and there are no contracts or minimum visit requirements.

Not to be outdone by the Irish, Scottish Country Dance classes are offered on Tuesday nights in the Breckenridge Village Shopping Center. Classes follow a 12 week schedule and are available for beginners and intermediate/advanced dancers. Sessions are $55 for the full 12 weeks for adults. Students under 18 are just $12.
