The Fire Within Us, the Holy Spirit

John 3:8- 8 "The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

Jesus knew first hand how the Holy Spirit worked in the world when He came to this Earth. He was filled, no, he overflowed and was consumed by the Spirit of God! Like an unquenchable fire, the Spirit was alive in Jesus consuming all his actions, thoughts, and plans. And Jesus prayed for all of us that would follow him throughout history, and he prayed that you and I would be filled to overflowing with His Spirit. It's a mysterious and powerful thought, to know that you are filled with God's Spirit, that His living waters are flowing through the once dry desert of our hearts and minds. As I said in the previous blog, once you understand fully the message of Christ, you can't be quiet about it, you cant be still, the Spirit wont let you! You would be in direct selfish, irresponsible disobedience if you did not share your hope of Christ with others.

Notice that on the day of Pentecost, men gathered that had once doubted, betrayed and questioned Jesus, but when God sent his Spirit on them through wind and fire, they were immediately changed, overflowed, and given the power of Christ's Holy Spirit (Acts 2). Peter denied knowing Jesus and cursed the accusation as a true coward but after this man was reconciled to God (through seeking complete forgiveness himself/Jesus prayed for him before it happened that his faith would not fail, Luke 22:31-32 31"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. 32But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.") and filled with the Holy Spirit he was given the honor of preaching the first "sermon" in which 3,000 people came to know Christ!
